About

Our Story

For almost 75 years The Assembly has been impacting Columbus with the good news of Jesus. In 1946 First Assembly of God was started in Columbus, MS. The dream and vision of this early community of faith is still alive and well today. The church has changed locations, and recently changed the name, but the mission is still the same. The Assembly Columbus is here to help people find hope and freedom in Jesus.

Our mission is found in three words - Experience // Explore // Expand

We believe everyone should experience the love and mercy of God. Through Jesus, God has shown the world that He not only loves us unconditionally, but desires to have a relationship with us.

We believe everyone should explore truth. In a world where so many different things try to distract us from real truth, we know that can only be found in God’s Word. Through Groups, Bible study, and worship experiences, we desire that each person hears the truth. The Word of God is our foundation and the only thing in the world that does not change.

We believe everyone should expand their influence. We are all different but we all have purpose. As a community of faith, we desire to help each other find their giftings and talents. God has given each of us these abilities to change the world around us. Every person who follows Jesus has a command to expand their influence. We believe this take place through many different avenues. We want to help you strengthen the gifts God has given you as you expand your influence.

In February 2019, The Assembly launched a campus in Starkville. In July 2019 we again added to our Assembly family by bringing New Life Assembly in New Hope as a campus. Our desire is through these incredible opportunities we will see the entire Golden Triangle impacted for the kingdom of God.

We believe that we are Better Together! If you are in the Golden Triangle come see us. We would love for you to become a part of The Assembly family!

Core Values

Authenticity Matters

We want to be authentic. This includes our relationship with God and others.

Everyone Belongs

It is not our church. It is God’s church. In God’s church there is a place for everyone.

Jesus Centered

Jesus is central. He is our savior. He is our hope.

Growing Together

We believe we were made to do things together. We want to grow together. We are better together.

Do More

We want to be generous. Our time, talent, and treasure. We want to always strive to Do More.

Love Without Limits

We want to show the Love of Christ. His love has no limits – neither should ours.

Meet the Pastors

Lead Pastors Jody & Lindsey Gurley

Jody and Lindsey have pastored The Assembly since August 14, 2011. They have two beautiful daughters, Lucy and Sadie. Pastor Jody is known for casting contagious vision and preaching with transparency, conviction, and authenticity. You’ll often find him busy at work, walking around the church with no shoes and bold colored socks. Lindsey is our “Head of the Party Planning Committee” and she thrives on finding fun and creative ways to love others. When it comes to thinking of new and creative ways to do church, she is the greatest of them all, and it’s a guarantee that her fingerprints can be found on every fun facet of church here at The Assembly.

We love our Pastors and we think you’ll love them too! If you haven’t met them yet, we hope you’ll stop by and meet them soon.
